Youth parliament news

Young people from Angus are being asked by Angus Council, through the Community Learning and Development service, and by the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) to make a difference in their communities by standing as candidates in the forthcoming Scottish Youth Parliament elections.

SYP provides young people aged from 14 to 25 with a platform to represent young people across Scotland and gives them an opportunity to influence politicians and decision makers. It is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people and campaigns on a wide range of issues, and represents young people all over Scotland. In the 2011 SYP elections, nearly 85,000 votes were cast across Scotland.

The nomination period for election runs from October 10 to December 7. Any young person with a passion for democracy, aged between 14 and 25 and living in Scotland is eligible to stand for election. Elections will be held in March 2013.

Any questions about the process or what is involved in being a MSYP should be directed to Rikki Beattie, Community Learning and Development, Montrose Road Centre, Montrose Road, Forfar DD8 2HT, T: 01307 473662, or visit www.syp.org.uk/elections
