A match ball from Glebe Park has now travelled 10,000 kilometres to end up in its new South African home.
Brechin Rotary Club sponsored a match ball at a recent Brechin City match, and opted to donate the match ball to a good cause.
The club gave the ball to the Abe Bailey South African University students, who visit the Rotary Club every year in December for fellowship and curling.
The Brechin City ball has now journeyed 10,000 kilometres from Brechin to South Africa after the Abe Bailey students decided to donate it to Holmdene Secondary School, Mpumalanga.
The principal, players and coach at the school were grateful for the gift and they mentioned that it was a sign that they and their scheme in South Africa – the “Youth for Action rural youth development foundation” – were being recognised.
In turn, Brechin Rotary Club was delighted that the gift would be a little reminder of Brechin each time they scored!
