The Reverend David Mumford, who has been Episcopal rector of St. Andrew’s, Brechin and St. Drostan’s, Tarfside, since 2007 is to retire next month.
His last service will be a Choral Evensong at 6pm on Sunday, June 14, followed by refreshments. This is an open service and a welcome is extended to all. Rev. Mumford has served as a member of the City of Brechin and District Community Council and was Dean of the Brechin Diocese.
He has been convener of Brechin Churches Together, part of the chaplaincy team at Brechin High School and has much valued his visits to primary schools, especially Lethnot and Tarfside. St. Andrew’s has played its part in taking services at sheltered housing in Brechin and at residential homes and Father David will miss the tea and cakes at The Glade. At provincial level he has regularly attended the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church and is a member of the provincial Personnel and Church in Society committees.
He also stood unsuccessfully as a candidate for the Scottish Green Party at the recent Westminster parliamentary elections and has been a trades union representative for the Faithworkers section of Unite for Scotland. Brechin Bridge Club will miss his presence, but their loss will be Dunbar’s gain as he and his wife, Elisabeth, are moving to East Lothian.
