Nominations are being sought for the annual celebration of rural life, produce and communities - the Scottish Rural Awards.

Scottish Countryside Alliance and Scottish Field magazine have teamed up to make the awards, dubbed ‘The Scotties’, a true celebration of the best of Scottish rural life.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Rural Awards explained: “Scotland is a mine of small rural gems from amazing and entrepreneurial businesses to those who drive tourism to our beautiful countryside, and from those who provide our food and drink to those whose dedication to their communities is an inspiration.”

There are a total of 12 categories, and a panel of industry leaders and experts will shortlist the nominations sent in by the public, with six finalists for each category being selected.

The finalists will be visited by the judges, and the winners of each category will be revealed at special award ceremony at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on March 5, 2015.

The award categories are:

Local Hero; Butcher; Start-up (for businesses operating for 24 months or less); Education; Rural Tourism; Hospitality; Business diversification; Conservation and environment; Agriculture and aquaculture; Artisan food; Artisan drink; Scottish Countryside Alliance Lifetime achievement.
