Brechin teenager Imogen Sherrit is another step closer to achieving her dream of going to America for a gap year in August.

To ensure she can take part in the programme Imogen has been busy fund-raising to cover the approximately £5700 needed for the trip.

The teenager has added another £100 to the fund pot following the donation from the Masons’ Lodge St. James.

“I would like to thank The Right Worshipful Master Frank Menmuir and the brethren of Lodge St. James 123 for their kind donation of £100 towards my gap year to the United States with Foreign Links Around the Globe (F.L.A.G),” said Imogen.

“I found out in February that I am bound for Warrenton, Virginia and I will be waving goodbye to Brechin in August this year!”

Since beginning fund-raising in December Imogen has received a great amount of support from the local community.

“I would like to thank anyone who has made even the smallest contribution to my fund raising so far.

“In February, the Bridgend Bar helped me to organise a ceilidh, which was followed by a performance from local young band Alpha Helix and this raised just under £400 which was fantastic.”

And there is still time to donate to her fund as, on March 31, there will be a a whisky tasting at Menmuir Hall at 7.30 pm.

Tickets are £10 and can be purchased either from Gourmet Grocery, St David Street or at the door on the night.

Included in the cost is a taster of each whisky, refreshments at the break and music from Brechin High School’s ‘Toe Tappers’ ceilidh band.

There will also be the chance for whisky lovers to win some prizes if they’re lucky.

“It would be very much appreciated if I could have the support that I have already received so much of. I would encourage everyone to come along and have fun at this informal event and to help my funds while they’re at it,” concluded Imogen.
