An open meeting to discuss the possibility of Edzell twinning with an Italian village is set to take place on Wednesday, November 26.
As reported in the Brechin Advertiser previously, initial discussions about twinning Edzell with Sauze d’Oulx in north-west Italy had been met with positive feedback.
Councillor Bob Myles has now confirmed that a meeting to further discuss the idea will be held at the Panmure Arms Hotel in Edzell at 7.30 p.m. on November 26.
Councillor Myles said: “Anyone who is interest in finding out more about the idea should come along.”
The meeting will be attended by Mauro Meneguzzi, the Mayor of Sauze d’Oulx, who will explain first hand the attractions of the village.
Sauze d’Oulx is a village in the Alps similar in population to Edzell in the summer, but in the winter it’s a very popular ski resort.
It is hoped, should the twinning go ahead, that it could help increase tourism for both villages.
Speaking at Inveresk Community Council on Monday night, Councillor Myles added: “The feed back we are getting from Sauze D’Oulx is that they’re excited about the prospect of twinning with Edzell.”
