A packed church witnessed Lay reader Joyce Mumford become the Rev. Joyce Mumford, when she was ordained at St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Arbroath recently.

Joyce is wife of the Rector of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Brechin, David Mumford, and her appointment follows four years of training and placements in Dundee and Angus.

She has been serving as curate at Arbroath and Auchmithie.

Joyce presided at her first Eucharist the following day at St Mary’s with her son on the organ and many of the St Andrew’s congregation travelling to join in with the service and to wish her well.

She is originally a Lancashire lass, brought up near Lancaster.

Joyce studied history at university, and over the years happily combined child care and teaching, finally coming to live in Brechin in 2007.
