With only seven weeks until this year’s Pageant, event organisers are busy round the table planning on how to make 2012 the best pageant ever.

Brechin is well known for many things, such as its Cathedral with its Round Tower and its Castle, but it is also well known for its Pageant.

Every June at the public park this annual one-day event takes place, and this year the pageant will take place on Saturday, June 2.

Brechin and District Round Table is once again well into its preparations for this year’s event, and they would like to appeal to anyone interested in taking part in any way to get in touch using the e-mail address below.

The pageant is a great, fun, family day out that brings in the crowds and supports a wide variety of local clubs, groups and businesses in the process.

Round Table chairman Ian Atkinson said: “We are keen to hold another great pageant this year and I would encourage any person, group or organisation that can help with a stall or attraction to come forward.

“The pageant is organised by a committee chaired by the Round Table but we rely heavily on the support from the local people, businesses and organisations. Without this support the pageant would not be possible.

“It would be fantastic to make the 2012 Pageant the best one ever, and with community help there’s no reason why we can’t achieve this!”

An open meeting has been organised at the Caledonian Hotel on Tuesday, May 1 at 5.30 pm to discuss ideas and suggestions the local community may have for the event.

“If any local people, businesses or community groups are able to help with either the planning of the event or on the day activities then please feel free to come along and offer your support to the event. It will be very much appreciated,” added Ian.

Brechin and District Round Table would be pleased to hear from any interested party at the following e-mail address - brechin.pageant@gmail.com

Already a number of ideas have been suggested on the Brechin Advertiser Facebook page.

These range from the idea of fancy dress competition with a prize for the best ones at the park, a hand-over ceremony when last year’s prince and princess hand over their title to this year’s prince and princess, as well as the return on floats.

And, with the event taking place so close to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee it has been suggested to have the Pageant themed around that.
