Angus Conservatives and Unionists stage a.g.m.

The Angus Conservative and Unionist Association held its annual general meeting in Arbroath.

Chairman Stephen Rickman welcomed the members by saying: “We meet when local elections are imminent, and a referendum on the future of Scotland within the United Kingdom is now within sight.

“The political campaigning climate is beginning to hot up, if in fact it ever cooled.

“Since our last AGM we have had the Scottish Parliament elections in May 2011, where Alex Johnstone was re-elected and continues to be a great support to the Angus Association and to our local council candidates.

“Hughie Campbell Adamson was an extremely hard working candidate who ran an excellent campaign but sadly missed out by a handful of votes to become a regional MSP.

“Also in November last year, saw the election of Ruth Davidson as the leader of the Scottish Conservatives. For the first time we have a leader who was elected by the members and speaks for the party in Scotland as a whole.”

He closed in thanking the candidates for their hard work and commitment and wished them good luck on May 3.
