PROVOST Helen Oswald has issued the following Christmas message:
“Christmas is the time that most of us will spend with family and friends, sharing a festive meal and exchanging presents.
“However we must not forget the hundreds of people in our communities who won’t be with their loved ones over the festive season. Some will have chosen to volunteer within their community and others will be on duty, at home and overseas – wherever they are we are grateful to them for their service.
“During my first eight months as Provost it has been a pleasure to meet the many people and businesses that help make Angus the vibrant county that it is. It has also been a privilege to represent Angus at events elsewhere in Scotland, as they offered a great opportunity to promote our past successes and future goals.
“2012 has been a year of unmatched sporting success with the London Olympics giving Glasgow huge encouragement as they plan a Commonwealth Games to remember in 2014.
“In Angus we are thrilled to be a host venue for the games and we are already hard at work, getting ready to welcome competitors, officials and spectators from across the world in just 18 months time.
“But before then there are some highlights to look forward to in 2013, starting with the opening of the new Kinloch development in Carnoustie at the start of the year. This wonderful new integrated facility will provide care and supported accommodation for older residents, enabling and encouraging a lifestyle that is as independent as possible.
“2013 is sure to bring its share of challenges too but I look forward to working with you as together we pursue our ambitions for the county.
“I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and a productive and healthy 2013.”
