Members of Brechin and Area SNP held their recent regular meeting in the Caledonian Hotel, where they discussed the recent Harley Davidson in the City event, stating how successful it had been.
Several members had spent time in the streets enjoying the great atmosphere and the huge turnout of locals and visitors.
Vice Convener Stewart Mowatt commented: “Warmest congratulations are due to everyone who contributed to the success of a memorable day for Brechin.
“This event has the potential to become an annual event bringing in even larger numbers in future years. As a biker myself, I turned down one of my regular rallies to support it and enjoyed a great day.”
Members discussed plans for those attending the SNP Annual Conference in October and agreed they were in good heart for the call to participate in the campaign for Independence leading to the Referendum in 2014.
Convener councillor Jim Houston added: “We are approaching a historic date when the people of Scotland can vote to take their future into their own hands.
“It’s time to turn our backs on the ‘nay-sayers’ who cleave to Westminster. It’s time to decide not to have nuclear weapons on our soil.
“It’s time to decide what format our defence system would take and whether we should become involved in global conflicts.”
Councillor Mairi Evans added: “We follow in the footsteps of some of Scotland’s greatest nationalists who worked tirelessly at local level and national.
“Some were well known internationally and others worked incredibly hard in their own communities.
“It’s time to prepare to shape our own destiny to ensure that their endeavours are finally rewarded. Working together we can make that happen.”
Plans were agreed for the stall at Edzell Gala on August 4.
