High praise for garden award entries

The entries for the 2013 Angus Council garden awards were highly praised at the award ceremony held on Friday.

Vice-convener of neighbourhood services Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “Once again our green-fingered tenants have excelled themselves with colourful and imaginative garden displays this summer.

“As usual, there was an outstanding level of entries for the awards, and I thank every gardener who has put in a great deal of hard work to achieve success.

“In congratulating the well-deserved winners, I’d like to mention all our tenants who play their part in adding to the attractiveness of our towns and villages. Their pride in their gardens is to be commended.”

Provost Helen Oswald presented the awards. The winners were as follows:-

Directors Special Award (most outstanding garden in Angus) Stewart Edward Cup - Frank and Margaret Craib, 17 Winter Place, Carnoustie.

Overall Winner (best first prize winner) Bill Roberton Trophy - George and Isobel Meldrum, 12 Tyndall Crescent, Monifieth.

Jim Miller Sustainable Trophy - Lachlan Forbes, 18 Langlands Road, Forfar.

Provosts Quaich - Leslie and Williamina Cottrell, 14 Thomas Street, Carnoustie.
