On December 16, Angus MP, Mike Weir, chaired a session on the floor of the House of Commons during proceedings on the Counter Terrorism and Security Bill.
Mr Weir is a member of the chairman’s panel and has experience in chairing debates. He said: “Although I’ve chaired many debates in Westminster Hall and in committee rooms within the House this was a rare opportunity to chair in the main Chamber.
“It’s always slightly daunting to chairing in the main chamber but was none the less a very interesting experience. The only downside to chairing bills is that I cannot vote on any proceedings during the Bill’s passage through Parliament.”
