On Saturday, June 23, Angus MP Mike Weir spoke at the official opening of the new Brechin City Funeral Directors and Monumental Masons on St. David Street, where it has taken over a larger part of the former Woolworths store.
The SNP MP had been invited by the company to officially open the new business and members of the general public were also invited to view the new premises.
Brian Dewar, the funeral director with the company, paid thanks to the support the business had received from the local community before he introduced the local MP.
Mr. Weir, who had previously practised law in the town, commented: “When Woolworths closed down there was real concern that it would be very difficult to find another businesses to take on the premises.
“The modernisation of the building and the sub division into several units has, however, given it a new lease of life.
“I was very impressed by the new premises and would wish Brian Dewar and his staff every success in the future.”
Mr Weir introduced Ian Gray, Moderator of the Angus Presbytery, who performed a Prayer Dedication.
After the official opening there was the opportunity for Mr. Weir and other guests to have a tour around the facilities.
