New Angus cancer resource

Angus libraries are offering local cancer patients a new specialised referral service which gives them access to up to the minute advice.

The Take Control project will provide the new information and referral service which will be available through all libraries and mobile libraries in Angus. Local library staff have been working in partnership with Maggie’s Centre in Dundee and with local health care providers to promote and refer patients and their families to the new service.

Speaking at the launch Angus Council’s vice-convener of Communities, Councillor Jeanette Gaul said that Angus cancer patients would now have local access to an authoritative, patient-focused collection of titles to help them take control of their illness in a pro-active way.

Also speaking at the launch Macmillan Cancer nurse consultant Cara Taylor said that this project provided people with access to up-to-date books with topics relevant to their illness.

“I am sure this will be a well-used, supportive library service. Readers will be referred by key cancer health care providers and centres but self-referral will also be strongly encouraged,” she said.

She added that all books in the collection had been approved by local health practitioners to offer accurate, straight forward help and advice.

The collection is available to both library members and non-members.
