New card scheme

A scheme aimed at helping people who have difficulty using public service buses has been launched by Angus Council.

The Thistle Card Assistance Card is to be offered to anyone who has difficulty using buses and is intended to alert the bus driver that help may be required. A spokesperson for Angus Council said that the Thistle Card would let the bus driver know about a passenger’s disability and the kind of help they may need during the journey, such as allowing them more time to sit down or letting them know when they had reached their destination. The cards are the brainchild of Tayside & Central Scotland Partnership - Tactran - working in conjunction with partner councils including Angus. Chairman of Tactran, councillor Will Dawson said the card was a quick, convenient and easy way for people with disabilities get help when using buses in the Tactran region. Cards are available free of charge at local ACCESS offices and libraries.
