A Brechin councillor is backing an initiative aimed at helping local businesses grow and prosper.

Councillor Mairi Evans, Angus council’s development and enterprise convener, is urging local business people to get involved in the scheme to ensure that their needs are taken heed of.

A spokesman for the council explained that the economic development team were currently surveying by e-mail all local businesses so they could become more informed about what was needed to help them develop. She said that businesses were also invited to attend information sessions in May.

Councillor Evans said the council was very keen to find out more about business needs and how the council could best support local businesses.

“It has been a tough few years for business and the economic climate is still very challenging so we want to make sure that what we’re offering local businesses meets their needs, from initial contact to current and future support for business growth,” she said.

“I urge local companies to complete the short survey or take the opportunity to come along to one of the open sessions and talk to the economic development team,” added Councillor Evans

“The findings from this comprehensive exercise will help inform future business support services and make sure they address the needs of our local companies,” she added.

The open sessions will be held in Arbroath today (Thursday) and Montrose and Forfar on tomorrow (Friday).
