Angus MP Mike Weir is calling for small shops throughout Angus to enter the national Best Small Shops Campaign.

The campaign has been launched the All Party Small Shops Group (APPSSG).

The group, which promotes small shops, is seeking nominations from all over the UK. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a Parliamentary Reception on February 25, where the winners will be announced.

Commenting on the competition, Mr Weir said: “We have many wonderful small shops throughout Angus from butchers and bakers to many more niche businesses all of which add to our burghs and our local economy.

“This is a great opportunity for these small shops to get the recognition for the brilliant work they do supporting the community throughout the year and creating jobs.”

It is hoped that the competition will help bring small retailers to the attention of parliamentarians and the local community.

Small shops can submit their application to the competition via www.bestsmallshops.uk setting out in no more than 500 words why they are the best small shops including; innovation in your business, community engagement and entrepreneurial activity.
