Rabbits seeking new home

The Scottish SPCA’s Angus centre is seeking new homes for 10 rabbits in its care.

Staff at the charity’s centre by Petterden took in 104 rabbits last year, and 2015 is proving to be just as busy.

Centre manager Elliot Hay said: “We have taken in 13 rabbits since the beginning of the year but unfortunately rehoming has been slow.

“There haven’t been any rehoming enquiries about our bunnies for over a week now, just lots of calls from people looking to give up their rabbits.

“Reasons include the children in the household getting bored with them, owners moving house or not having enough time for their pets anymore.

“It may be that new owners don’t want to take on a rabbit in the colder weather since they are often kept as outdoor pets, however, they can make great house-pets and can be trained to use a litter tray.

“We have five younger bunnies aged around six months as well as older rabbits and they all have their own lovable personalities.”

Elliot added: “While we never encourage impulsive rehoming, we would like to invite anyone who thinks they have the time and commitment to look after a rabbit to get in touch.

“Our centre is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week and local animal lovers are always welcome to drop in or give us a call on 03000 999 999.”
