Race for Life on the horizon

Study Support As the SQA examinations get closer, pupils in S4, S5 and S6 are being encouraged to sign up for Study Support sessions in the next few weeks.

In addition, pupils can opt in to the Easter Study programme during the first week of the holidays.

Artist in Residence

The school's artist in residence, Jonathan Claxton, is busy working with classes transferring images onto Perspex.

He recently invited pupils to record on a luggage label what they were doing at 6.10pm on Tuesday, February 21. We await the results with great interest.

We are delighted the Angus Digital Media Centre will host a display of pupils' work that has been produced with the support of our three artists in residence. It is also intended to hold a display of the work in the school to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to see it.

Thanks are due to Mr Drahony for submitting a selection of pupils' work to the Glasgow Herald which was printed in their Society section on Tuesday 28 February.

Cross country event

A group of pupils are gearing up for the Angus schools cross country event on Tuesday, March 14. Brechin High School pupils have performed very well in this event in recent years and the school is hoping their runners turn in a good set of performances.

World Book Day, March 2, 2006

The Learning Resource Centre at Brechin High School held a quiz for World Book Day. The theme for this year was Happy World Book Day and a party atmosphere was the order of the day. The girls in the Book Group organised the music and food.

Mrs MacLeod, library assistant, organised the quiz and Mrs Downie was responsible for the prizes. Teams of pupils from first and second year did battle at lunchtime.

All the pupils enjoyed the contest and a group of S2 girls calling themselves Barbie Girls were declared winners with a score of 44 out of 50. Well done to everyone who took part.

Parental Involvement event

A group of parents have formed a local Action Group to plan and organise an event to encourage greater parental involvement in local schools. This will be held on Thursday 20 April 2006 in Brechin High School. The event will include a presentation by a group of actors and a range of optional information sessions.

All parents should have received an information leaflet in the last week through the post. If you have not received a copy, contact your child's school.

Support for Learning upgrading

Two of the suite of rooms that form the Support for Learning Base are being upgraded with new lighting, carpets and new furniture. The changes will allow more flexible use of the space available for pupils to work in.

Investment in Excellence

Following the very successful two day Phase One training event that all staff at Brechin High School participated in, further events are taking place in the coming weeks.

The first session of Phase Two training will be held at the Northern Hotel on Saturday, March 18.

The school is delighted that a group of parents and community participants will also be taking part in this training. The initial training focused on personal and self effectiveness, and now moves on to how people can work together to support an organisation.

Race for Life – attention all ladies/girls

This year's Race for Life is on Sunday, June 18, at 11am. It will take place at Camperdown Park and you can run or walk the 5K.

It's a good excuse to get fit (there are programmes for beginners and intermediates) and raise money for a worthy cause. Anyone interested in taking part, please contact Ms Gregory for a pro-forma, to be completed so that you can be registered.
