The guest speaker at last week’s Brechin Rotary Club meeting was the Rev. Duncan Barwise, invited by member Alan Watt.

Duncan was born in Glasgow, but moved to Canada when only three years old, and he spoke about a very varied life in the United Church of Canada.

He returned to Scotland a few years ago as Minister of St Margaret’s Church in Forfar on a five-week exchange, which has eventually turned into three years!

Duncan declared that life is like a banquet table, and we should squeeze out as much as possible.

He described just how he has done this in remote postings to Newfoundland, encounters with Grizzly Bears in the Rocky Mountains near Banff, and fun exciting times in Canada’s North West Territories.

He also mentioned his interesting times as a military Padre in Germany, at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, but concluded by saying his favourite time has been here in Scotland, extolling the virtues of its scenery and people.

Club member Dave Howson proposed a vote of thanks for a most inspiring talk.
