Pupils, staff and parents from Lathallan School undertook a challenging 24 hour Cycle-a-thon last Thursday to raise funds for the Lathallan School’s first Senior Sports tour, for Rugby and Netball teams.

During the challenge squads took to static bikes set up at the school with the aim of cycling from an imaginary starting point of Bahgdad to Dubai within the 24 hour period.

As the squads took to their bikes regular updates were given through the school’s various social networking sites.

Throughout the event the school’s geography pupils calculated the distance from Baghdad to Dubai making the distance travelled during the cycle-a-thon as 1337 miles while maths pupils used the event to calculate how far, and where on the map the pupil’s had cycled at points throughout the 24-hour period.

Money raised will help fund over 25 Lathallan School pupils and staff who will be travelling to Dubai from February 28 to March 6 to take part in the Dubai College Rugby 10s Tournament.

This high profile tour will see the school’s under 18s squad take on schools from Dubai in the two day event.

Alongside this event, the Netball team will also be playing a number of well known private schools, such as Repton College Dubai and Dubai College.
