School of Ambition programme to be launched

BRECHIN High School's notes for the week-beginning November 20 are as follows:-

School of Ambition launch

The school is delighted to announce that a prominent educational psychologist from Glasgow, Mr. Alan Mclean will visit on Monday, December 11, to launch their School of Ambition programme. Mr McLean has been heavily involved in what helps to motivate pupils, and this is one of the main strands of their programme. In the afternoon, Mr McLean will speak to pupils at special assemblies, to staff later in the afternoon and to parents on the evening. The school hopes as many parents as possible can turn out to hear his message.

Children in Need

Congratulations to S6 pupils for organising a range of events on Friday, November 17 which raised nearly 500 for Children in Need. In a very enterprising venture, senior pupils got involved in teaching classes in return for a healthy donation!

Canteen – salad bar

As part of the ongoing improvements to the school canteen, the self-service salad bar and 'fill your own' baguette option are proving to be very popular with pupils. The range of salads is very extensive and caters for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The school are awaiting the arrival of new furniture in the next few weeks as a further stage in the upgrading.

Enterprise Show

All S2 pupils went through to the Space at Dundee College to see 'The Enterprise Show' recently. This was presented by Theatre-In, a national touring Theatre Company who gave an entertaining and thought provoking show on the topic of subject choice and the meaning of enterprise in its widest sense.

Sandwich Competition

Congratulations to the winners of the sandwich competition, Lori Ferries and Christie Wanless both in S1. The runners up were Jenna Sturrock and Shaun Bowie in S4. Prizes were given out by judge Mrs Thomson. The winning wrap was on sale at lunchtime.

Photographs

S1 Class Photos are now on display on the Library notice board. They cost 7.50, pupils should check with the school office if they are interested in buying one before November 24. The Prefects and Senior group photographs are also available to order.

Standard Grade History Revision Guide

There are still copies of this available for loan to S3 and S4 pupils from Mr Coates. Bring a 5.00 deposit and you can keep it until the end of the course.

After School Activity Club

The After School Activity Club runs every Mondays from 3.45pm in the school Gym. Gemma Raffel runs the club from the Community Learning Service and all activities are free.

Exam Anxiety Workshops

The S4 pupils are currently in the middle of their prelim exams and S5/6 pupils will be taking their exams at the end of January. To help pupils prepare, workshops will begin on December 6 and run for four weeks. More details from Ms Robertson at a later date.

Aquabox Appeal

In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Brechin, the school's Pupil Council has been busy organising and encouraging pupils and staff to bring in items from home that can be sent away for disaster relief. Thank-you to parents who have already sent items in. We are aiming to fill 42 Aquaboxes, one for every form class! If you can help with a donation of any of the following items, please leave them at the School Office or contact us to have it collected.
