Brechin Scout Group is gearing up for its annual Christmas card delivery scheme which raises funds for the group.

Treasurer of the group Dorothy Black explained: “Despite the Lottery award of £2,000 to purchase four tents, we shall require more funds to replace additional camping equipment to meet the current regulations and needs.

“As the only fund-raising activity undertaken by the Scout Group, this is a vital time of the year for us and we hope to once again provide a valuable service to the people of Brechin.”

The cost of the Scout’s delivery service is remaining at 20 pence per card for this year.

Delivery boxes will be located in the Co-operative on Trinity Road, Dennis’, Lidl, Newsplus, Hendry’s Newsagents and the Squarie Newsagent from Wednesday, December 3, until approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, December 19.

Dorothy added: “We thank the proprietors of these shops for their assistance with this event.”

The Scouts are also appealing for volunteers to help sort the cards that come in. The sorting dates are as follows:

Monday, December 8; Thursday, December 11; Monday, December 15; Friday, December 19.

Dorothy said: “If you can help us sort cards, the Scout hut will be open from 6 p.m. onwards on these dates and any and all help is gratefully received, even if you only can manage a short time.”

If there are any volunteers who wish to help, but are available only during the day arrangements can be made to stamp cards in the afternoon of the sorting dates. Please contact Elizabeth Kidd on 01356 624210 to discuss.

Volunteers are needed to help deliver cards in these areas:-

1, Mitchell Drive, Eastmill Road and Eastmill Brae; 2, Ann Terrace and City Road; 3, Kinnaird Place, Southesk Terrace and Montrose Street (Numbers 93-158); 4, Hillview and Montrose Street (Numbers 159 upwards); 5, Kinghorn Place, Jenner Place and Eddie Avenue; 6, Golf Road Park.

Please contact Elizabeth on the above number if you can help.

Readers are reminded that cards can only be delivered to the town area of Brechin. If you accidentally post a card for elsewhere, please contact Elizabeth so it can be returned.
