As the nation prepares to fall silent at 11 am on Friday - Armistice Day - a number of events have been planned for Angus.

In Forfar town centre on Friday morning a two minute silence will be observed following a short service at The Cross.

The service will begin at 10.55am; 11am marking the time (in the UK) when the armistice became effective.

On Remembrance Sunday a number of Acts of Remembrance will be held.

The annual Service of Remembrance in Brechin will see those taking part muster at 10.30am at the top of Bank Street and will march to Brechin Cathedral for the Service of Remembrance.

After the service the parade will reform in Church Street and proceed to the War Memorial in the public park for the wreath laying ceremony.

The parade will then return to the Legion Scotland Club for a light lunch.

This year’s Montrose Remembrance Day Service on Sunday will start from the Legion Clubrooms in Wellington Street.

Participants are asked to muster at 10.15am with the parade marching off at 10.20am. They will march to Old and St Andrew’s Church on the High Street for a church service.

The parade will then march to the Mid Links for the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph, followed by refreshments for parade participants in the Clubrooms.

In the afternoon short attendances will be made commencing at 3pm at Sleepyhillock, Hillside, Sunnyside, Dun, Ferryden and Lunan.

A wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Cortachy War Memorial on Sunday at 10 am.

This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance led by the Rev. Malcolm Rooney in Kirriemuir Square at 10.45 am.

A service follows in the Glens and Kirriemuir Old Parish Church before the company leaves at 12.30 pm for the wreath laying ceremony at Kirrie Hill.

Angus councillor Major Ronnie Proctor said, year on year, more people are attending the Cortachy and Kirriemuir Acts of Remembrance.

He said: “It is a pleasure to see the number increase every year.”

In Forfar the Service of Remembrance on Sunday is in St John’s Episcopal Church at 11 am after which the parade will muster in the RBS Car Park and move to The Cross for the wreath laying ceremony.

Organisations include Angus Council, the Salvation Army and Forfar Community Council.

A wreath laying ceremony takes place at the Balmashanner War Memorial at 2 pm.
