Scotland’s animal welfare charity is calling on local people to go along and support the Petterden rescue and re-homing centre by buying their pets Christmas gifts from the centre’s very own shop.

The Scottish SPCA is hoping to raise additional vital funds to help care for the thousands of animals that are rescued and re-homed by the centre every year. The Society’s Petterden centre has cared for over 850 injured and unwanted animals so far this year and all the money spent at the shop stays within the centre.

Manager Elliot Hay said: “We have a variety of different items you can get at our centre, these include cat and small animal carriers, litter trays, collars and leads, dog and cat toys and dog coats.

“If you don’t have a pet you can still help the Society by sponsoring a ‘space’ at the centre and help animals in our care.

“Sponsor a Space also makes a perfect Christmas gift that will last for a whole year by helping pay for the food and veterinary treatment of all the animals cared for in the ‘space’ sponsored.

“Sponsors will have their name displayed at our centre and will receive a certificate of thanks, a window sticker and our magazine.

“They’ll also be sent an update letter about one of the animals their sponsorship has helped, along with a lovely photo.

“If you order your space before December 16, you will receive your gift pack in time for Christmas.

“By supporting your local centre you can help animals like Bruce, who was sadly found wondering the streets of Dundee earlier this year. When he arrived at the centre, Bruce needed special treatment as he was blind. Sadly, we never found out who owned Bruce; however, our dedicated staff at the centre were able to give Bruce the care he deserved before helping him find a loving new home.

“The Scottish SPCA receives no government or lottery funding and we rely on the kindness and generosity of locals to continue our work rescuing and re-homing animals in Scotland each year.

“The additional funds from the sale of shop items and ‘space’ sponsorship are a great help to us at the centre.”

Anyone interested in visiting the rescue centre shop can do so Monday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm, at Petterden, Dundee, DD4 0QD. For more information on Sponsor a Space, call 03000 999 999 (option 4) this link
