Spirit of Angus photo competition in aid of Commonwealth Games

Amateur photographers from Brechin and throughout Angus are being urged to dust down their cameras and head out and about In the search for images that will capture the ‘Spirit of Angus’.

A spokesman for Angus Council, who has launched the competition, said that it had been inspired by the Commonwealth Games and was part of a local initiative to show the council’s support for the Games.

“The competition, “Capture the Spirit of Angus”, is an opportunity for the people of Angus to create a local cultural and historical image to celebrate the Commonwealth Games and to showcase Angus to the rest of the world,” she said.

She said that entry was open to all amateur photographers in the adult and junior categories.

“Entrants are invited to take photographs of the nature, heritage, arts, industry, people, places and past times in Angus,” she added.

An exhibition of all the photographs will be held in Brechin Town House Museum Gallery. Finalists will be invited to the exhibition where the winners will be announced,

The exhibition will then go on tour of Angus throughout 2015 after which entries would be retained in the council’s Angus Photographic Collection that is held within Angus Archives.

Prize-winners will fall into three categories - first and second prizes in the adult category and first and second prizes in the junior category and a People’s Choice Award.

Top prize for the adults is dinner, bed and breakfast for two people at Glen Cova Hotel and the runner-up prize is dinner for two at the But ‘n’ Ben restaurant at Auchmithie.

The winning junior entry will get a digital camera and the junior runner-up will get a voucher for an Angus Council country park outdoor activity of their choice.
