Stage set for Angus Rotary Marafun 2014

The Rotary Club of Forfar are inviting people from all over the county to get involved in this year’s Angus Rotary Marafun.

This takes place on Sunday 25th May in Forfar and a Forfar Rotary spokesman said that once again it promised to be a major event for the county. “Whether you are a community group, sports club, individual or business, I believe there is a definite reason to consider getting involved,” said Fofar Rotarian and Marafun convener David Valentine.

“This is a major fun event involving teams running a circuit along East and West High Street,” he explained.

He added that before the main event there would be a team relay race for primary school children followed by a family and friends fun run which will be led off by STV news presenter Andrea Brymer.

“As in previous years there will be street entertainment, stands and catering around the municipal buildings in Castle Street so the event will be an enjoyable and entertining one for everyone to enjoy,” said Mr Valentine.

“For the first time this year we will organise a Sports Zone on part of the Myre Green and the Myre car park. The hope is that locally based sports organisations will use this area to organise demonstrations of sporting events to encourage participation

“There are many reasons why you might consider how the event could help to support your own club or organisation whilst at the same time helping us to raise much needed cash for the Ninewells Cancer Campaign and a few other local charities”, said Mr Valentine.

“Since the first Marafun in 2002 we have raised around £150,000 for the Ninewells Cancer Campaign and in the process numerous local organisations have raised additional cash for their own purposes.

“This year, for the first time, we have widened participation for the whole of Angus and the purpose of this message is to ask you to spend a few minutes to find out more about this major opportunity,” he added.
