Brechin and Edzell groups and organisations keen to take part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations at Glamis Castle on May 20 have until February 17 to commit themselves to the organisers.
It is planned that the celebrations will be a chance to showcase the talents of Angus and all organisations from the seven burghs are invited to participate.
This is a unique occasion, with an anticipated 25,000 visitors, where the many groups and people in Brechin and Edzell have the opportunity to showcase what they do and promote the area.
On the day of the event there will be a large stage in front of the castle where groups can perform together to create a spectacular show, uniting all the burghs. Also during the afternoon there will be the opportunity to present individual performances.
There will also be an additional one or two other main stages, out-with the marquee where performers, of all abilities, will be given the chance to perform.
Although the time has not yet been finalised, the marquee will be open from approximately 12.30 pm until 6pm.
Also, as part of the celebrations, each burgh will be allocated a marquee within a tented village to show the various activities offered within their burgh.
Speaking on behalf of the City of Brechin and Area Partnership and City of Brechin and District Community Council, community planning officer for Angus Council, Beverley Gibb, said:
“Each Burgh in Angus will have its own Marquee, where groups and organisations can do displays, workshops or performances, or anything else that they can think of, to show people what’s going on in Brechin and Edzell.
“If you are skilled in a particular craft and would be willing to give a workshop or demonstration, then we would like to hear from you.
“If your group would like to take part in performing and giving a showcase of their work, then again, we would like to hear from you.
“If you are a group, looking to promote themselves, maybe to attract some new members, then you too could take part, have a static display, or give out information. Or indeed, if you have any other ideas, then please let us know.
“We would like you to go back to all the groups you represent and also speak to anyone else you know, and let us know as soon as possible, if you wish to be part of this unique event.
“City of Brechin and Area Partnership and the City of Brechin and District Community Council are co-ordinating the events for the Marquee. If you contact me either by email or phone, I will pass this to the organisers.
“If any groups would require assistance with transport for personnel or equipment, please let us know.”
