Thought for the week

Well, it is that time. We thought it was never coming and now that it is here we wonder how it happened so fast.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on the horizon.

“2 - The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.

“3 - You have multiplied the nation and increased its joy; They rejoice before You according to the joy of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

“4 - For You have broken the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

“5 - For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, and garments rolled in blood, will be used for burning and fuel of fire.

“6 - For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

“7 - Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9)

For unto us a child is born… and his name will be… oh, so many good things for us to enjoy and be blessed in.

His was not to be an easy life or to end well from our perspective.

He was to carry the load of taking 12 mismatched disciples and make them into a force that has changed the world.

His journey through life ended on a cross but thankfully, as we will rehearse again at Easter, it found its way to an empty tomb of resurrection to prove He was who He said He was.

The one that Isaiah had prophesied so many years before as if it was an already done deal, that of His legacy ‘there would be no end’.

These thoughts make me want to join the angels of Bethlehem on that night so long ago and sing out ‘Glory to God in the Highest and on Earth Peace, good will to men.’

My prayer for all of us is that we can know this Child, this gift that was given and is offered even today.

Oh that we can know the peace that ‘The Prince of Peace’ offers to each of us, it is so needed in our world today.

May your life be blessed and your friendships and family be harmonious in this season.

God Bless us everyone,

Jon Bergen
