People living in Brechin and the surrounding area, are being challenged to get their thinking caps on and get quizzical for Christian Aid.

The charity’s annual ‘Quizaid’ fund-raiser encourages workplaces, churches and schools across the country to raise as much money as possible to help lift the world’s poorest communities out of poverty.

Whether you’re savvy with sports facts, fanatical about films or a general knowledge genius, Christian Aid says it is simple to get involved and every penny raised counts.

Kathy Galloway, head of Christian Aid Scotland, commented: “Quizaid is an excellent opportunity for people in the north east to help Christian Aid and our partners fight poverty and injustice around the world.

“Holding a quiz might seem like a small action to take, but it really does make a huge difference. We hope people across the country will enjoy going head to head in the name of tackling global poverty.”

Christian Aid works in around 50 countries at any one time, providing urgent, practical and effective assistance in tackling the root causes of poverty as well as its effects.

The charity has said that every penny raised will have an impact in the world’s poorest communities. Money raised at quiz events could help in the following respects:-

£1 could provide a hot meal for a homeless person in Brazil.

£10 could provide a pick and spade to start an organic kitchen in the Dominican Republic.

£63 could provide a food parcel for a family affected by flooding in El Salvador.

£93 could provide one day of emergency training for a community in the Dominican Republic, so that they are fully prepared in the event of a disaster.

£198 could provide a sheep-shelter, helping coffee farmers in Nicaragua to diversify their income.
