Travellers that had been set up on privately-owned ground next to Glebe Park have been disbanded - only to set up in the public park.

The camp is one of a number of recent sites in the local area - including within the grounds of Stracathro Hospital and Edzell Muir - that have been set up over the last few months.

A member of the public said: “They left a pile of garbage behind them - general rubbish, human waste and tyres. When they move out of here they’ll just leave more rubbish behind.

“You get in touch in with the council and all they say is that they are monitoring the situation. You count how many times they have to go to court and how much this is costing them.

“We’ve never had problems with travellers before but now were are becoming a soft touch. They will eventually move it on, but probably only back to Forfar or to Montrose. All it is doing is costing the council money after money. There’s a place in Tealing - but they won’t go there.”

An Angus Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the unauthorised encampment that set up at the public park in Brechin on Saturday (June 25). Our officers are monitoring the situation in line with policies and procedures.”
