Angus Council has said it is taking steps as “quickly as we are legally able to”, to deal with travellers at Edzell Muir.
An encampment has been set up at the carpark of the Muir, with travellers unable to get on to the Muir itself.
An Angus Council spokesperson said: “We have been made aware by a number of residents about the presence of an encampment at Edzell Muir and we are taking steps to deal with the matter as quickly as we are legally able to. Our officers will continue to give the area attention until the encampment has moved on.”
Councillor Bob Myles urged locals not to give travellers work. He said: “They can’t get onto the Muir where they usually go to, so they have decanted on to the car park.
“It is very unwelcome, especially in the lead up the bank holiday weekend - which is always busy.
“People encourage them by giving them work. I would urge anyone if they don’t want travellers on their doorstep - stop giving them work.”
