Community Councillor Jim Sherrit provided The City of Brechin and District Community Council with an update on adopting a telephone box.

The idea was first brought to the community council by Jim earlier in the year.

The traditional red phone box, the last remaining onein Brechin, is currently owned by BT but has been offered to the community council to take on for just £1.

Speaking at the meeting on May 5, Jim explained: “The box is on council land and they have no objection to it being used by the community council. No planning application would be needed either.

“It’s just a case of putting in the application, BT will then begin a 42 day consultation period and, if there are no issues, ownership would be passed on to us.”

If the application submitted by the community council is successful, BT would remove the phone equipment from the box.

It was agreed at the meeting to get the application finalised and sent off this week. The community council plan to revamp the box, before finding a new use for it.
