Watt statue set to be given the green light

Planning permission for the erection of a memorial statue for Brechin’s Sir Robert Watson-Watt has been given the go-ahead, subject a number of conditions being met.

Angus Council’s development standards committee met yesterday (Tuesday) to discuss the application for a 4.5 metre bronze statue taking up a 14 square metre site at the north-east corner of St Ninians Square when they approved the application.

Alan McKeown, strategic director of communities, had recommended the application was approved as long as the planning authority receive plans detailing proposed ground levels and fixed ordinance information and that written specification and samples of materials to be used on the statue and surrounding paving is approved before work begins.
