WEBSTER'S SCHOOL NOTES, 27.1.10

London Trip: S6 Webster's pupils left Kirriemuir on Sunday night to travel down to London, on the seventh London trip organised by Mr Pole.

After the long bus journey, the first sight the pupils will have will be the well renowned Covent Garden, before checking in at The Wembley Plaza.

As usual, the pupils will see two shows: the usual "We Will Rock You" musical which is an intriguing story built around some of Queen's classics. The other show the pupils have decided to attend is a theatrical version of the well loved story "The Lion King."

Much time spent on the high streets and in "Harrods" buying plenty of souvenirs, if they can be afforded! Time has also been set aside for pupils to visit the wonderful science museum at Kensington.

Webster's London trips have always been a great success in the past and the pupils have shown themselves to be superb representatives of Kirriemuir. This year's group will return on Thursday (tomorrow), undoubtedly, with plenty to tell the rest of the school.

Burns Supper: Webster's seniors held a Burns Supper on Thursday, January 21 to commemorate Rabbie Burns in the traditional way. One hundred people turned up on the night.

There was ceilidh dancing and, of course, the usual meal of haggis, neeps and tatties. The haggis was carried by Roshin Robertson and piped in by Alexander Thomson.

A lively version of "To a Haggis" was given by Amy Thomson. Grace was said by the Rev Bob Harley. After the meal, a toast to the lassies was well argued by Uist Corrigan and suitably responded to by Gemma Hood.

Mr Pond delivered a superb Immortal Memory, even though he hails originally from Yorkshire! Roshin again and Joanna Witton gave the vote of thanks. It was another great evening, much enjoyed by seniors, staff and friends of the school.

Raising Funds for Haiti: In response to the horrific earthquake in Haiti, sixth year pupils have organised a whole school "Hokey-Cokey" to raise funds for the victims of the disaster.

The event is set to take place on Friday, January 29, with each pupil paying at least 1 to take part.

The intention is to get enough money to purchase a Rotary Emergency Relief Box and Rotary Club support is organising the event which is much appreciated. It is hoped the event goes off successfully and any contributions from parents will be gratefully received.
