WEBSTER'S HIGH SCHOOL NOTES 17.09.09

Sporting successes: Webster's pupil James Dobbie represented Tayside in the British Special Olympics in Leicester during the summer.

He won two gold medals (one for the 50m back stroke and one for the 50m front crawl) as well as a bronze medal for the 25m breast stroke.

Last weekend was busy for two other sports stars. Aeron Mellish and Jamie Wilmshurst travelled to Cardiff to compete in the UK School's Championships. Aeron represented Scotland in the javelin event whilst Jamie took part in the 50m and 100m front crawl.

They both performed extremely well: Aeron's team came sixth and, in the swimming relay, Jamie's team came fifth. Aeron was the youngest in her team but hopefully, she has been able to learn from the others in her group so she can do even better the next time opportunity knocks. Well done to all these athletes.

Parents' evenings: A busy S4 parents' evening took place last week and the school wishes to thank all parents who went along to discuss study strategies for this session.

There is no doubt there is a big return for the pupils when parents take an active involvement in their children's learning. On Thursday of this week there is a special S3 parents' evening and year head Mr Currie is hoping for an equally good turnout.

Chaplaincy week: All this week morning assemblies are being addressed by the school chaplains. The service the school gets from its chaplains is excellent and gain the school records its thanks to David Taverner, Bob Harley and Malcolm Rooney.

TARGE (Wargaming) Demo: Later in the year TARGE is holding its annual conference at Webster's, a major event which the school is delighted to host. On Wednesday this week, at 4 o'clock, some senior TARGE members will be putting on a wargaming demonstration.

This will surely be of great interest and pupils (and any parents who are available) are encouraged to go along to find out what TARGE is all about.
