WEBSTER'S SCHOOL NOTES 11.2.10
Hokey Cokey for Haiti: The whole of Webster's High School took to the pitch on Monday, February 1 to do the Hokey Cokey in an attempt to raise funds for Haiti.
The event had to be postponed from Friday but it proved to be no less of a success.
Fortunately the weather was kind and at 3pm all the pupils plus most of the teachers, as well as a few members of the local Rotary Club, danced and sang along to Hokey Cokey music played out over the pitch.
Pupils paid 1 to take part in the dance and 800 was raised. This is being used to purchase a Rotary emergency box which will be sent to Haiti. Indeed it is already on the way.
Furthermore, the event was inspired by a world record of the largest amount of people doing the Hokey Cokey all at once, a figure which stood at over 500. It seems that Webster's did break the world record but will not feature in the next Guinness World Book of Records due to a minor technical glitch. Apparently events need to break a time record to get into the world famous book.
Nonetheless, Webster's Hokey Cokey for Haiti was an event enjoyed by all and was an innovative way to raise money for Haiti. Much credit is due to the charities' prefects, Emily Hood and Jenna Rowlands, who came up with the idea.
Monza Cup: The five-a-side football competition known as the Monza Cup is an annual event much looked forward to in Webster's. This year there were more than 30 hard fought games before the final was contested between Blue Lagoon and VO5.
This was a superbly fought game with end to end action and chances for both sides. Blue Lagoon did everything but score, hitting the bar or the post four times. They were made to pay by a very well organised VO5 who took advantage to win the game 2-0 and retain their title.
It was a sporting encounter and congratulations are due to all the competitors.
