Working together things can get done

I keep asking folk for topics to address and mostly I just get blank stares. That is even from folk that have just said; ‘Hey liked your Thought for the Week’. So just want to say thanks for the help.

There are a lot of topics to address actually but some are a bit too controversial for this format as they would just open a big can of worms and not enough space to develop the whole topic in a truly helpful way. So a lot of those topics I will just leave alone.

So with that said, I was just realizing that it was the 4th of July for me and I did absolutely nothing to celebrate and even barely gave it a thought. I should have at least shot off a firework to two. But mostly just too busy to even think about it.

But that made me realize that it has already been a month since the Pageant and just a few days till Harley Davidson in the City.

This kind of acted as a catalyst to make me think about getting things done. It is easy to lament the things that don’t happen or that don’t happen the way we want.

But at the end of the day if we work together then things can happen and get done and if we had our part to play then we can be much more satisfied with the result.

The principle comes together as found in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: “Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labour.

“For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.

“Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?

“Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

This is what we are seeing in Brechin as the Pageant came together again after missing a year.

This is what is making events like Harley Davidson in the City happen. This is how Foodbank keeps working and from there the list of community things keeps growing and I know I have left off your favourite event or place.

We are seeing more and more of folk stepping up and taking a part in making Brechin better. Good Job Brechin! The more community spirit the better!

Hopefully we can continue to build on what is happening and keep working together to build a better spirit of community that makes Brechin a place to want to be, to live and hopefully as we make progress even a place that we see more jobs move in and supply work for more folk.

Here’s hoping for nice weather and big crowds in Brechin this Saturday and especially hoping for a lot of bikes to make a lot of noise.

Looking forward to moving ahead.
