World Book Day looms

Football Star Congratulations to David Easton (S3) for being selected for the Angus under 15 football squad to play against East and Midlothian schools on Wednesday, February 8, in Edinburgh.

Although the Angus team were defeated three-one, David got on the scoresheet. The school looks forward to further successes for David!

World Book Day – March 2

The vouchers for World Book Day will be issued towards the end of this month. The vouchers entitle each pupil to 1 towards the cost of a book.

The School Learning Resource Centre will be holding a book fair towards the end of this term. More details to follow later. Vouchers can also be used in bookshops and towards books in the school book club leaflet.

The Learning Resource Centre at Brechin High School has invested in a software package that aims to maximise pupils reading experiences. The program is based on the principle that practice improves reading.

Pupils read a book of their choice from the library for which there is a quiz. When they have finished the book, they sit a short computer based quiz, between five and 20 questions, depending on the length of the book read.

The books are allocated points depending on the degree of difficulty and pupils can move through the package by accumulating points and succeeding in the quizzes. A quiz can only be taken once and the questions are generated randomly so that no two pupils will have the same set of questions.

The English teachers are supporting the use of this program and it will be used to support the work started by Reading for Gold.

Reminder to former pupils that there is a box for school books in the public library for any books they would like to return.

Lunchtime and After School Clubs

The school has a number of lunchtime and after school clubs running at present and are always looking for more people to come along. Why not pop along and give things a try and give ideas of any new clubs you would like to start.

The programme just now is:–

Monday lunchtime – Dance and Badminton; Tuesday lunchtime – Basketball; Wednesday lunchtime – Basketball; Thursday – Volleyball.

Variety Performance

Any pupils interested in taking party in a drama production as part of the show, please contact Miss Stuart as soon as possible.

During this time all pupils can use the senior toilets located beside the music rooms in B block. A group of S4 pupils have been involved in the design.

Also, C24 is now available Monday lunchtimes for any pupils wishing to access their football teams online.
