The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for ice across Tayside and Angus.

The warning is from 4pm today (Monday, January 18) to 11am tomorrow (Tuesday, January 19).

A Met Office spokesperson said: “A widespread frost is expected over the northern half of Scotland on Monday night, whilst further south, and over the far north of northern England, outbreaks of sleet and snow on higher parts will leave some wet surfaces.

“With ground temperatures expected to fall below freezing icy stretches are expected to form in places.

The chief forecaster said: “Please be aware of the potential for some difficult driving conditions.

“The frontal band that has brought outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow to parts of central and southern Scotland and northern England on Monday will continue to weaken through Monday evening and night.

“This will lead to some wet surfaces and as temperatures dip to just below freezing some icy stretches are likely to develop.

“Over northern Scotland a widespread frost is expected with icy stretches forming due to a combination of run-off and re-freezing of melted slush and snow.”
