An Angus inter-school festival of football was organised by Brechin High School on Thursday, February 28. The event was for boys at under-14 level and the following schools were represented: Arbroath Academy, Arbroath High, Brechin High, Carnoustie High, Forfar Academy, Monifieth High and Websters High.
A round-robin event was played and each team played six short games with each team playing approximately 80 minutes of football in total.

Although a friendly competition, all of the teams competed fiercely as local pride was at stake. In their da
zzling new colours of tangerine and black, Brechin's boys started strongly; winning their first two matches against Carnoustie High and Arbroath High. However, the boys narrowly lost their next four matches and had to settle for finishing fifth out of seven.

Monifieth and Forfar both won four matches and drew two to finish top of the table and they also shared the same goal difference. However, Monifieth were awarded the title overall by virtue of the fact they had scored more goals than Forfar.

So, congratulations to Monifieth and to all of the teams who took part. They were a credit to their schools.

Also due great credit are the senior pupils from Brechin High who helped to stage the event. All volunteers, they helped with refereeing, supervising, refreshments and recording the results. Without their assistance, the event would not have been possible.
