CURTAIN-RAISER FOR NOMMY SEES GOAL-FEAST

THE annual football curtain-raiser in memory of Nommy McFarlane kicked off at the Brechin Public Park on Sunday.
Three Brechin sides; Hudsons, Murphy's and Springfield, along with Montrose Caledonia Thistle are taking part this year.
In the semi final on pitch number one, Murphy's (ex Bolag FC) took on the newly formed Springfield. The Springer stunned their more experienced opponents with a shock early goal from John King which had Murphy's in a panic before Jamie Young's equaliser.
Half an hour later and it was still level before the heavens opened in more ways than one as at half time it was 6-1 to Murphy's, with striker Young netting four of them.
The second half continued the way the first had ended with Liam Middleton and Barry Forbes scoring hat-tricks, Barry McDonald netting a brace and Craig Laing, Richard Sellar, Alan Wilson and Craig Howie adding to the total to leave the scoreline Murphy's 16-1 Springfield.
In the other semi-final on pitch two it was also one way traffic as MCT recorded a surprisingly easy 7-0 victory over Hudson's, Billy Candy's hat-trick and two goals each for Kevin Craig and Brechiner Alexander Bruce doing the damage.
This sets up what should be a cracking final between Murphys and MCT.
There is also plenty to play for in the 3rd/4th place play-off between Hudsons and Springfield.
Both games are scheduled to kick off at 2pm this Saturday (August 9) at the Public Park.
