YOUNG Brechin motorcycle racer Ewan Gray, aged 13, has achieved even more success by qualifying for the final selection event of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Academy selection process.
As reported last week, Ewan had been invited by the Red Bull MotoGP team to take part in the first selection event last week at the Adria Raceway in Italy where 120 children between the ages of 12 and 16 participated from more than 18 countries throu
ghout Europe and as far a field as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Africa.
Ewan was among 60 children who were given the opportunity to compete on the Wednesday to demonstrate their racing skills in front of the Red Bull committee of experts who included Harald Bartol, Gustl Auinger, Peter Clifford and Francesco Guidotti.
Twenty-one of these children who impressed the committee both by their performance on the track and their personality throughout the day were then invited back on the Thursday to allow the experts to analyse them once more.
The children were then notified by email on their return home as to whether they had done enough during there two days in Adria to become one of the final 30 Red Bull MotoGP Academy selection participants.
The final stage of the Selection Event will take place at Circuit de Estoril, Portugal on November 7 and 8 and, if successful, Ewan will go on in 2009 to compete at famous European circuits among which include Jerez, Mugello, Assen and Brno.
Ewan's father, Graeme said: "We are sure that Ewan gained a great deal from the initial selection event and we appreciate the fantastic opportunity that lies ahead of him from this very rewarding experience irrespective of whether or not he is then selected to go on to be part of the 2009 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup."
