A nightmare start to new year for Bolag

Forfar West End SC 5, Brechin Bolag AFC 1 - The Bolag produced one of their worst ever performances as they began 2007 disastrously.

The Brechiners went into the festive break on a six game winning run and came out of it looking like a team who should be struggling at the foot of the league.

Injuries, suspensions, work, hangovers and the dreaded flu virus resulted in many players missing but it really should never have come to this as a decent enough bare eleven took to the field.

The West End took an early lead but the Bolag looked to have taken a grip on the match when Sellars cross was headed home by Craig Laing in 25 minutes.

The Bolag then went to sleep and lost a second just before half-time and another straight after. Even at 3 -1 the Bolag were still in it and have pulled games back from worse positions but on this occasion lacked the heart or bottle to do something about it as the heads went down and the towel was thrown in.

Belated Christmas presents were given to West End and but for a couple of good Trevor Clark saves it could have been worse and the final whistle could not come soon enough.

With that out of their system the Bolag can hopefully get back on track in a League Cup quarter final tie against Millgate in Arbroath this Sunday. The game kicks off at 10.30am with players to meet at St Ninians Square at 9.30am. Training indoors at the Leisure Centre on Thursday at 6pm.

Team: T. Clark, D. Lindsay, B. McDonald, G. McFarlane, A. Wilson, R. Sellar, L. Middleton, K. MacAulay. E. Clark, C. Laing, K. Rennie.
