Bobby wings it
JIM Duffy asked the local community to come out and support his team a few weeks ago.
Now he may have gone part of the way to encouraging a few more along to Glebe Park on a Saturday afternoon.
In securing the services of winger, Bobby Barr, Duffy has, at last, got the creative spark that he has talked off for the last month or so and the Brechin manager couldn't be criticised for sitting back and not going out to win the game against Clyde on Saturday.
City were particularly impressive in the second period, when Barr, Renton, McAllister and sub Mark Cowan all missed glorious chances to give the home side an edge and the three points.
Although a five-point gap has opened up at the top of the table, Duffy claims he isn't in any panic, probably down to the number of chances his side continue to create.
Prior to this game, City had three successive nil-nil draws and another draw was hardly the result that they were looking for.
However, the manager wasn't too annoyed and emerged a happier man than he was seven days previously.
"I was disappointed with the result but not with our second-half performance," he said.
"We didn't play particularly well in the first-half but we were much more like ourselves after the break. We got the ball down and, time and time again, created good goal-scoring opportunities.
Ironically, Clyde had two long-range efforts that hit the bar in the second-half and scored with two minutes to go but we had umpteen chances. We played really well during the second half and were on the front foot for virtually the entire half.
"While they have hit the woodwork, I don't remember Craig Nelson having anything like as much to do as their goalkeeper.
"We have made progress this week. Now we just have to turn a higher percentage of those chances into goals and the rewards will come.
"I thought that it was a really good game for the spectators. We had four goals, numerous missed chances, clearances off the line and shots hitting the woodwork.
"Clyde worked hard and played really well. They must have thought they'd won the match when they scored with just two minutes to go, but we showed our character to come back and equalise again in injury time.
"That took a bit of character to come back so late in the game and Charlie scored a great goal. The players have worked hard to have such a good home record and they need to continue to work just as hard to keep it."
City handed a debut to new loan signing Bobby Barr from Albion Rovers and the manager was delighted with his performance.
"I thought that Bobby did really well for us and I was delighted for him that he had such an impressive debut," said the manager.
"With Bobby on the wing and Rory McAllister and Kris Renton up front, plus Charlie King in midfield we played a really positive formation which is sometimes a wee bit of a risk, but I believe in playing attacking football and the spectators must have enjoyed the game.
"I certainly think we are worthy of more backing and I would ask the punters to continue to turn out in even greater numbers in what is approaching a vital period of the season."
