Bolag put brakes on in-form Kirriemuir side
Brechin Bolag AFC 2, Woodville 0 - The Bolag picked up another good three points on Sunday when they won a hard fought match with a Kirriemuir side who have been on a great run recently.
This result saw the Brechin side make it five clean sheets out of six home matches so far this season and while the goalscorers receive most of the plaudits the guys further back are every bit as important.
The Bolag had most of the play from start to finish but at no time did Woodville look out of the match as they threatened to score on the break.
Early pressure failed to yield a goal with efforts from Forbes and Rosie going over the bar. The best passing move of the half ended with Craig Laing firing just wide.
In 29 minutes however Ryan McIntosh, who looks back to his best after injury, played a pass to Laing who at pace fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net to give the Brechin men the lead.
The homeside set about gaining a second but a breakaway left a player one on one with Trevor Clark who made a good save to prevent a surprise equaliser.
Early second half pressure should have brought goals but a few bad misses and good saves from Middleton and Laing kept Woodville in it.
In 61 minutes in a carbon copy of the first half save Trevor Clark made an outstanding double save when the same Woodville player went through on goal.
In 73 minutes the game looked safe for the Bolag when Craig Laing curled a free kick into the net to make it 2-0.
Seven minutes later the game spilled over when a Woodville player lost the plot and caused a melee. When it was all calmed down the instigator was given a red card for his troubles. The Bolag played the clock down after this until the final whistle. The win however came at a cost with Andy Rosie, Barry Forbes and Euan Clark all suffering from knee knocks.
Team: T. Clark, D. Lindsay, S. Clark, G. McFarlane, A. Wilson, B. Forbes (W. Hamilton), L. Middleton, A. Rosie (R. Sellar), B. McDonald, C. Laing, R. McIntosh (E. Clark).
A spokesperson commented: "This week the Bolag are away to Second Division leaders Delsons in the second round of the Forfar Roof Truss Trophy. This will be another hard game but silverware in the Forfar league does not come easily and to reach the quarter-finals will take a really good effort."
Training will take place on Thursday at the Leisure Centre at 6pm. For Sundays earlier 10.30am kick off players meet at St Ninians Square at 9.30am.
