Can "Daz" make an automatic return?

BRECHIN City manager Jim Weir is expecting a reply from former City skipper Darren Smith on Thursday or Friday of this week as he attempts to bring the highly popular left-sided midfield player and former skipper back to Glebe Park.

Jim said: "Darren is a player everyone at Brechin knows only too well and he has managed to reach an agreement with Raith Rovers.

"He has gone away on holiday to think things over and he is the sort of individual who will have offers from other clubs.

"However, has promised to give me an answer as soon as he returns.

"There are also another couple of players coming in to spend the pre-season with us - Alex Walker, whom the club had on-loan from Morton last season and Davie White, who was released following his leg break.

"Obviously, both of these players have had problems with their injuries and we will assess their fitness during the pre-season and take things from there.

"People at Brechin know all about Davie White, while Alex's spell here was badly affected by injury. We will have a look at both of them when we get our pre-season under way.

"I have also talked to a couple of SPL managers about bringing two players in on-loan. And while things are at quite an advanced stage, it all depends on what the club's plans are for the players and how the players themselves feel about coming here.

"There may be a possibility that we lose Richard Walker in July.

"Richard has a clause in his contract allowing him to move on to get a physiotherapist's position and there is the possibility of an opening for him with Shamrock Rovers.

"I have talked to Richard and to Michael O'Neill about the situation and asked Richard to be as honest with me as he can and come back to me as soon as possible.

"Richard's situation was also one of the reasons we brought in Andrew Cook.

"The players have all been issued with their pre-season schedules now and we are looking forward to that getting underway."
