WITH less than three weeks now until Brechin City’s “Over the Hill and Farfir Away” Sponsored Walk, the Club’s Management Committee have confirmed that City legend Charlie King is to take part in the event.
Speaking on behalf of the Management Committee, Grant Hood said, “Charlie has been working exceptionally hard to regain full fitness following his horrific ankle injury back in early October. He received a magnificent and heart-warming reception from the travelling fans at McDairmid Park for the Scottish Cup Replay against St Johnstone recently, when he was named amongst the substitutes and warmed up in front of the sizeable City support.
It speaks volumes for Charlie as an individual that he has made himself available to support The Club in this manner. It would be terrific if this gesture tempts more City supporters to volunteer for this Club fundraiser.”
City fans will recall, not only the news of the injury, but the cruel timing of it which led to Charlie not playing in his Testimonial Match against Glasgow Rangers.
Grant continued “The walk will take place on Saturday, April 23, and will be the reverse of the journey originally planned back in January. Volunteers will depart from Station Park in Forfar at 8am and walk back to Brechin via the B9134 road through Aberlemno. The departure time has been chosen to ensure volunteers are back in Brechin well in advance of kick-off time.”
Some fans have queried travel arrangements through to the Forfar departure point. In response Grant states, “Anyone considering the walk should be assured that travel should not be seen as an obstacle. The Club are confident that, with adequate co-ordination of our volunteers, sufficient drivers will be identified to get everyone through to Forfar in time for departure.”
The event is open to all supporters, although under-16’s must be accompanied by a parent. “The Club will make a donation to Cancer Research UK from the funds raised through this event. Unsurprisingly, there’s a real feel-good factor around The Club at present, and hopefully this, along with the opportunity to accompany a City legend, will encourage City fans to volunteer for this event,” added Grant.
Volunteers should e-mail email@example.com <mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org> or call the Brechin City Commercial Line on 07817 910548 to register for the event, and receive their sponsor forms.
