City gain home draw with "Steel Men"

BRECHIN City have been handed a home draw in the Third Round of the Co-Operative Insurance Cup.

Brechin will take on former Scotland Boss Craig Brown's Motherwell side, whom they have already met as part of their pre-season preparations.

That game ended in a 3-1 victory for the SPL side who will be taking on Brechin in a competitive cup match for the first time since the sides met in the Scottish Cup in 1986. That game ended with a 1-1 draw in the first game at Firs Park, followed by another drawn match at Glebe Park, before City eventually bowed out the following evening at neutral Tannadice.

The draw is as follows:-

RANGERS v DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC

KILMARNOCK v HIBERNIAN

ABERDEEN v RAITH ROVERS

FALKIRK v HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN

CELTIC v INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE

ROSS COUNTY v DUNDEE UNITED

ST. JOHNSTONE v QUEEN OF THE SOUTH

BRECHIN CITY v MOTHERWELL

Manager, Jim Weir said after the draw: "While it would have been great to get a tie that would have produce a bit more in the way of income for the club, if you aren't going to get that all you can hope for in any cup draw is a home draw.

"It also is nice for the players who worked so hard to get to this stage of the competition to get the opportunity against an SPL side. Motherwell showed in pre-season they are a good side. However, this should be a different sort of game with a lot more at stake for the winners."
